ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Chad. I’m a certified financial coach and the main content creator for Simple Biblical Finance. I specialize in helping people create a plan to get control of their finances and get out of debt.
Before my days of teaching and coaching, however, I was dealing with my own financial disasters. My wife and I entered into our marriage with our own individual debt. Then we bought into the lie that we “deserved right now what it took our parents and grandparents a lifetime to achieve.”
Before we started turning things around, we had “achieved” the following:
- Maxed out credit cards, lines of credit, and personal loans from friends and family
- First name basis and friendships with collectors
- Lawsuits from our newly acquired friends
- Over $240,000 in debt
- A foreclosure on our “dream home” (i.e. Money Pit Nightmare)
I finally had enough and decided this was not how I wanted to live the rest of my life. So I began researching and looking for answers to turn things around.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
While on this journey, I quickly learned that our story was far from unique. Doing a quick internet search for statistics on money reveals shocking numbers:
- Nearly 80% of people are living (i.e. barely surviving) paycheck to paycheck.
- Nearly 70% of people say that their financial situation and debt is making their home life unhappy and contributing to or causing anxiety and depression.
- 30% of working adults have no emergency savings at all.
- Depending on the state you live in, foreclosures have risen as much as 200% since 1980.
- The average American has 7 credit cards.
- Couples who argue about finances at least once a week are 30 times more likely to get divorced.
Do any of these stats hit close to home for you? You certainly aren’t alone in your situation. I’ve been there. Millions of others have been there. I’ve been the person wide awake at 2am wondering how the electric bill was going to get paid. The only reason I never experienced the pain and embarrassment of bankruptcy is because we didn’t qualify. We tried…twice!
It’s possible to turn things around. There is hope!
MY APPROACH TO PERSONAL FINANCE
When my wife and I began forming our Battle Plan, I began studying from some of the most respected personal finance personalities out there. I applied principles from Dave Ramsey, Art Rainer, Larry Burkett, as well as several simple living and minimalist authors to put together a plan that worked for us. One of the core things that I learned was that personal finance is very “personal”.
It’s not always a one-size fits all situation.
Many of the authors point out in their books and blogs, however, that the greatest financial wisdom comes straight from the Word of God. Experts say that the Bible has over 2000 verses about money, possessions, giving, etc.
So I began combing through the Scriptures to find core principles and how they can help transform our financial situations and our lives.
I was tired of trying to do things “my way” because all that did was lead me to disaster. It was time to start doing things God’s way.
In 2019, I completed the Master Class Financial Coach certification from Ramsey Solutions to help me to identify and relate to people in various situations and circumstances.
